About Us

It was in the early 1990s that we – Dan and Cheryl Martin, the founders of CherDan Chocolates – stumbled upon a candy recipe book at a thrift store, sparking our journey into the world of candy making. Dan’s initial batches of homemade caramel, coated in chocolate, were so remarkable that they became sought-after Christmas gifts for family and friends. The delectable treats, now known as “Teddies” or “Turtles,” received high praise with comments like, “These are the best I’ve ever had!” This led to inquiries on how to acquire more, prompting us to set up a dedicated commercial kitchen in our home. Today, we enjoy a thriving business venture, crafting various types of artisanal chocolates.
Wondering about the origin of our signature confections known as “Teddies”? The reason behind the name lies in our love for our family dogs! During our sons’ early years, we cherished our Airedale Terrier named “Teddy,” who had the classic chocolate brown and caramel coat of an Airedale. Naming a confection with rich creamy caramel and toasted pecans hand-dipped in premium milk or dark chocolate after him seemed fitting. Though Teddy is now gone, our affection for him lives on in the name of one of our initial and most cherished chocolates.

We handcraft our confections using simple ingredients and high-quality chocolate.
What we love about being chocolatiers is the happiness we feel when people enjoy receiving and indulging in our sweet creations!
